They may have graduated, but their legacy lives on. Below is a growing list of former students who now utilize their many talents in the industry.
Name: Noelle JacobsClass of: 2011
Continuing Education: Grand Valley State University Bio: Noelle continued her education at Grand Valley State University. Throughout college, her coursework closely resembled that of her work in Mr. Bush’s video news class. She conducted many interviews, shot countless hours of video and spent many sleepless nights cutting away in the edit bays. She worked alongside her instructors to write, produce and direct her class news shows. In December of 2013, Noelle met with Hollywood’s Mark Burnett and Roma Downey for a sit-down interview on their 2014 film, Son of God. The segment aired on West Michigan’s WKTV Community Television in Wyoming and Kentwood, Michigan, where she also wrote stories. Shortly after, she interned with West Michigan’s leading news organization, WOOD TV8 in Grand Rapids, where she honed her skills in the newsroom. In fall of 2014, Noelle was back at WOOD TV8 working in the web department to manage one of the station’s mobile applications during the busy ArtPrize season. She was hired into the newsroom in March of 2015 as the 24 Hour News 8 nightside/weekend assignment editor, a position she fell in love with during her internship. She graduated from GVSU in April of 2015 with a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in Broadcasting with a minor in Religious Studies. Outside of news, Noelle and her best friend run a small photography business, ModCap Photo. She also works for Campus Ministry @ GVSU doing various work from photography to student outreach! Tasks involved in the job: Assign and manage news crews, assist planning news coverage, work with others stations around the country to obtain and exchange information and video, handle viewer injuries, tune in broadcast signals from remote news crews, conduct heavy research to obtain and confirm information for broadcast, assist in writing web stories and updating social media. Fun fact: Noelle adopted her newsroom nickname, Noodle, when the news director scribbled her name on a staff response sheet during a severe weather drill. A producer picked up the sheet and asked, “Who’s Noodle?” Hobby: Storm chasing! Noelle has been passionate about severe weather since she was a child. She meets with Storm Team 8 meteorologists to learn about various radar products, then takes her new knowledge and her camera to the roads during severe weather. |
